Supporting, respecting, and valuing others’ identities and including accessibility considerations are part of our work toward a transformed, multicultural, and inclusive environment. The Women’s and Gender Studies Consortium, 4W Initiative, and UW-Madison GWS Graduate Students are committed to creating an environment which promotes increased understandings of feminism and its interconnections with issues of race, ethnicity, age, class, ability status, sexual orientation, and gender identity. We encourage individuals of diverse identities, from campuses and communities, to participate in the conference.
We are committed to creating an environment that allows all participants to more fully participate in the conference. We hope everyone will join us in this effort, acknowledge that mistakes can be made, and hope we can all learn from them.
For more information about accessibility or accommodations, or for questions about the participant/presenter guidelines, please contact Stephanie Rytilahti, Director of the Women’s and Gender Studies Consortium and Conference Co-Chair at srrytilahti@wisc.edu or (608) 262-3056.
Guidelines for all conference participants:
- We expect participants and presenters to respect and support others’ identities throughout the conference. (For example, respecting and using everyone’s pronouns and using gender-inclusive language.)
- This is a fragrance-free event. For the health and safety of facilitators and participants, please come fragrance-free to this event. That means not having any scented products on your body, hair, or clothes.
Guidelines specific to conference presenters – the following guidelines are encouraged but not required:
We will have technology available in every room that includes an AV console/desk, PC/Mac, USB hub, data connection, 1 LCD projector and screen, wireless microphone, sound hook-up, and document camera. Projectors are set to accept a display resolution of 1024×768 on a 15-pin connector. Presenters bringing their own devices will need to bring their own display adapters and be able to match this display resolution.
- Presenters are encouraged to bring five copies of their papers (if they are presenting a paper), for the use of attendees who wish to follow the written text, and to indicate whether they want their papers returned to them.
- If using handouts, presenters are encouraged to prepare some copies in a large-print format (for example, 18-point sans serif font) and to indicate whether they want their handouts returned.
- Presenters are encouraged to consider making it possible for attendees to obtain an electronic version of the presentation that allows for type size adjustments or use of text readers (creating audio from written text).
- Presenters are encouraged to describe any power points or visuals during their presentation.
- Presenters are encouraged to caption/subtitle any videos, or have transcripts available.
- Presenters incorporating an experiential activity are encouraged to consider making their activity inclusive or adaptable for people of all physical abilities.
