WGSC Conference Session Types

Individual Paper/ Presentation

The most common session type. You’ll have 15 minutes to present. If you plan to read a paper you’ve written, we strongly encourage you to include visuals for better audience engagement (e.g., a PowerPoint). You will be scheduled in a session with 1-3 other people presenting on a related topic, with time for Q&A from attendees at the end. Conference planners will assign a moderator to the session.

Poster

This session type provides an opportunity to present your work one-on-one with conference attendees. Create a poster showing your research, finished or ongoing project, or creative work. Presenters will display their posters during the Friday afternoon poster session, and attendees will visit the exhibit area and have the opportunity to discuss your work with you. The poster session is typically 90 minutes.

Flash talk

Session type for shorter, less-developed presentations or for those earlier in their research. You’ll have 10 minutes to briefly present. You will be scheduled in a session with 2-4 other people presenting on a related topic, with time for Q&A from attendees. Conference planners will assign a moderator to the session.

Panel

 A group of 3-6 presenters, including a moderator, will have a structured discussion around a specific theme, concept, or project. Discussion could be organized through moderator Q&A; through short, consecutive panelist presentations with moderator Q&A concluding; or as a roundtable discussion amongst panelists guided by the moderator. 45-60 minutes, including Q&A with attendees.
