Decolonizing Gender Studies
Decolonizing Gender Studies Roundtable
Friday, April 9 2:30-3:45pm CST
This roundtable features the work of a year-long Decolonizing Gender Studies workshop hosted by the Women’s and Gender Studies Consortium. In collaboration with colleagues at Beloit College, participants from across the UW System have met frequently to develop and support GWS-based projects with an intersectional, anti-racist lens. The projects advance equitable and inclusive institutional practices specific to each campus location and also larger systemwide initiatives aimed at diversity, equity, and inclusivity. The presenters will provide a brief overview of their campus projects as they focus on specific frameworks essential to growing and expanding robust intersectional, feminist work. Attendees will gain a broader understanding of how to launch and sustain similar work at their home institutions as well as strategies for building and expanding communal networks, overcoming challenges, and ensuring projects deploy a critical anti-racist, intersectional lens that aligns with the mission and vision of each campus. The presentation will conclude with examples of student projects which similarly embody an intersectional, feminist lens.
You can see a full description of each project here.
